At his press conference on Saturday, Luis Enrique came out in support of Gerard Pique and the club have followed suit on social media.
The Barcelona defender dominated the week’s headlines with his criticism of what happens in the director’s box at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and views on Real Madrid’s values.
“We would have to find another Pique and with the game that he gives us,” Luis Enrique told reporters. “Pique would have to be cloned. There is no one like him.”
Lionel Messi was also the focus of criticism in relation to his four-game FIFA ban for a tirade against officials and the coach also rose to his defence, by insisting that his behaviour is always exemplary.
The club also followed suit in showcasing their support for the under-fire duo by posting a photo of both on Facebook accompanied by a stirring message.
“Our values, our pride,” said the post, along with a picture of Messi congratulating Pique after a goal.
